The Federal Capital Territory Police Command took action on Monday by conducting extensive searches of suspected kidnappers’ hideouts and routes located in the hills and bushes surrounding Apo Resettlement in Abuja. This initiative was revealed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement released on Wednesday.
As outlined in the statement, the operation was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, who personally spearheaded the efforts alongside police operatives. The operation, conducted on April 1, 2024, at approximately 11 am, aimed to implement enhanced security measures in the area, identified as a potential route for kidnappers and a haven for criminal activities.
The clearance operation involved the strategic burning of illegal structures and dense vegetation surrounding Zone A and B of Apo-resettlement and its environs. Additionally, proactive measures were implemented, including the deployment of police personnel for surveillance patrols, effectively securing entry and exit points to the hills. Igweh emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
