Tinubu: Threats to Nigeria’s Sovereignty Will Face Heavy Consequences

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, denounced the recent protest orchestrated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), cautioning the labor movement against assuming it holds exclusive representation of the populace’s voice. The NLC had staged a protest on Tuesday, citing widespread hardship and the federal government’s failure to honor agreements made with the unions.

In a stern rebuke during his address, Tinubu emphasized that the labor union must recognize its limitations, particularly against an administration barely nine months old. He asserted his commitment to ongoing reforms despite resistance from what he labeled as ‘smugglers’, underscoring the government’s unwavering stance against corruption.

Acknowledging the temporary hardships resulting from fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, Tinubu urged Nigerians to endure, assuring them of brighter days ahead. Emphasizing a forthcoming resolution to the nation’s economic woes, he called for perseverance and diligent effort from all citizens.

However, in addressing the NLC, Tinubu reiterated that the labor congress does not monopolize the nation’s collective voice and urged them to prioritize peace. He challenged the union to participate in the electoral process within the framework of the law, suggesting 2027 as a suitable opportunity while emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence.

Furthermore, Tinubu highlighted the inauguration of the red line as a realization of a vision conceived 25 years ago during his tenure as governor, advocating for increased collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and other states to bolster railway infrastructure development nationwide.
