Mustapha Abubakar, one of the kidnapped pupils from Kuriga in Kaduna State, managed to break free from captivity and has shared his harrowing experience with BBC Hausa Service.

He revealed that the kidnappers treated them like cattle grazing in the wilderness. The incident, which occurred on March 7, 2024, saw over 280 pupils and teachers abducted from Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area. The bandits, armed and ruthless, invaded the area, leaving chaos and fear in their wake. Abubakar’s escape involved a clever maneuver in the forest as the bandits transported their captives on foot.
